To further reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions when driving in the city, the 1.6D DRIVe turbo diesel is available with Volvo’s new Start/Stop technology. Once the engine is warmed up and the car comes to standstill (for example traffic lights) you need to put the gearbox in neutral and release the clutch, the engine automatically shuts off. And instantly as you press the clutch pedal, the engine restarts and you’re on the go. Inside the car you will not notice any difference (despite the fact that the engine shuts off and starts). An extra battery ensures that all infotainment and comfort systems will function as usual even with the engine shut off. What’s more, intelligent brake energy regeneration further optimises fuel efficiency and performance in all driving conditions. As soon as you brake or decelerate, the alternator feeds that extra energy into the battery. And when you accelerate, the alternator decouples to free the engine for maximum performance when you need it. The Start/Stop system can be deactivated with a push of a button in the centre console and is designed for outside temperatures between 0° and 30° C.
